A map of water ice near Mars' equator
A map of water ice near Mars' equator Scientists used the radar instrument aboard Mars Express to discover new evidence of subsurface water ice near Mars' equator. This map shows buried water ice up to 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) thick. If all of the ice were melted, it would cover the entire planet with liquid water up to 2.7 meters (8.9 feet) deep.
