Dr. McEwen is a planetary geologist and director of the Planetary Image Research Laboratory (PIRL). He is a member of the imaging science team of the Cassini mission to Saturn; co-investigator on the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbit Camera (LROC) team; and principal investigator of the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) for the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) and the High-resolution Stereo Color Imager (HiSCI) for the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (to launch in January 2016).
For Cassini he is leading the planning and analysis for imaging observations of Titan’s surface. For Mars and the Moon he is studying a broad range of topics in planetary geology. He is also pursuing studies for a future mission to Jupiter's moon Io.
Blurred images and battery issues are no longer an immediate problem.
