Wrinkle ridge cutting sinuous rille
Wrinkle ridge cutting sinuous rille Two linear features with different origins are evident in this Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Mini-RF image of the Moon. Crossing the image from left to right is an unnamed "sinuous rille," a likely lava channel associated with the Marius Hills volcanic complex, which formed in association with the volcanic plains that fill Oceanus Procellarum. After the lava plains formed and hardened, the weight of the lava caused the lunar crust to sink and buckle, forming wrinkle ridges. The north-south bright feature is such a wrinkle ridge.
