Work in progress This is the color panorama Opportunity was working on right up to a few sols or Martian days before the planet-encircling dust event (PEDE) put a stop to all science operations and caused the robot field geologist to shut down and enter a sleep survival mode in June 2018. James Sorenson processed this image in true color. From the black sections, it’s clear that the rover was still working on it. “I hope when or 'if' Opportunity wakes up, that she could continue to finish it,” said Sorenson. “She still has work left to do!” There’s a team of scientists and engineers and MER followers around the world who wholeheartedly agree.
