Upper edge of Perseverance Valley
Upper edge of Perseverance Valley As Opportunity pulled up to Perseverance Valley in May 2017, she used her Pancam to shoot this image. It shows the upper edge of Endeavour Crater’s rim and the ‘spillway’ leading into the valley, which falls downslope to the left for the length of two American football fields or about 219.45 meters or 240 yards. Under the direction of Planetary Society President Jim Bell, the Pancam science lead, this image was processed at ASU in false color, a technique that enables scientists to better discern the various geological features in the scene.
