The night side of the Earth at 10:18 UTC on January 14. Because Saturn was at opposition (on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun) on January 13, the Earth's night side corresponds closely to the view of Earth from Huygens. The red cross indicates the location of the Green Bank telescope. Yellow crosses (east to west) represent the 8 American VLBA antennas that were also watching Huygens (see pictures below). All these telescopes could "see" Huygens but only Green Bank had real-time detection capability.
