Saturn on June 11, 2017
Saturn on June 11, 2017 This view of Saturn—perhaps the sharpest ground-based image ever captured—was taken by a team of seven amateur astronomers. Rarely seen (from Earth) details are observed, such as small ringlets with Ring C, including the Maxwell and Colombo divisions. The Encke division is easily observed around the entire A ring. Note the strong blue coloration of the southern hemisphere shining through the Cassini division. Damian Peach

This image of Saturn was captured using the 105cm F/17 Cassegrain at Pic du Midi. A big thank you is given to Marc Delcroix and Francois Colas for arranging the mission for the amateur astronomers to use the telescope.
