Neptune and moons, October 2016 Neptune in Oct 2016 with Proteus and fainter moons seen close to Neptune. Triton, in its retrograde orbit, moves opposite Proteus and makes a brief appearance in the lower left corner. Diffraction spikes are seen coming in from the left edge of the frame even before Triton makes a proper appearance on the detector. One faint star and another very faint star zoom by from right to left near the upper right quadrant of the frame. Processed by Judy Schmidt
