Mastcam-Z in the Malin Space Science Systems Clean Room

Mastcam-Z in the Malin Space Science Systems Clean Room
Mastcam-Z in the Malin Space Science Systems Clean Room A close look at the Mastcam-Z hardware—slightly more complicated than your average camera! The foreground camera is the "right eye"; the "left eye" (identical from the outside, but with different color filters on the inside) is in the background here. For scale, each camera is about as long and wide as a typical canister of tennis balls. From left to right the three small gold- or bronze-colored cylinders on each camera are the motors to run the focus mechanism, zoom mechanism, and filter wheel. For mounting onto the rover's mast, the cameras will be flipped upside-down from their orientation on the test fixtures here, and the rectangular opening is what will be seen when looking at the rover from the front.
