Grissom Memorial Museum's Tribute to the Corned Beef Sandwich During the Gemini 3 mission in 1965, astronaut John Young smuggled a corned beef sandwich aboard the spacecraft by hiding it in his pocket. While in orbit around the Earth, Young offered a bite of the sandwich to his crewmate, Gus Grissom, which sent crumbs floating in zero-G all around the cabin. This incident resulted in a review by the U.S. House of Representatives' Committee on Appropriations. In honor of the sandwich scandal, this replica of the infamous corned beef sandwich was preserved in acrylic and displayed at the Grissom Memorial Museum in Mitchell, Indiana. Raymond Cunningham
