Eclipse safety Other than the 2 minutes or so of totality, it is crucial to use proper safety glasses to view the Sun during a solar eclipse, as demonstrated here by the author and his sons. Of course you’ll get a better view of the Sun if you’re the one actually looking at the Sun. Eclipse glasses filter out so much light that other than looking at the Sun, you will likely not see anything through the glasses. Bruce Betts
