Curiosity science camera digital electronics assembly (DEA)
Curiosity science camera digital electronics assembly (DEA) The Digital Electronics Assembly (DEA) is the "brain" of Curiosity's science cameras. The DEA has four slices, one each for the four cameras: two Mastcams plus MAHLI and MARDI. The DEA performs takes input from cameras and performs autofocus, autoexposure, JPEG compression, Bayer interpolation, downsampling, cropping, focus merging, and other processing. Each slice contains 8 Gigabytes of flash memory, providing storage for images until camera team members command the transfer of images to the rover's main computer for immediate transfer to Earth.
