Color global low-phase view of Dione

Color global low-phase view of Dione
Color global low-phase view of Dione Cassini captured this very low-phase (that is, nearly full) view of Dione on 23 July 2012. With the Sun nearly behind Cassini, shadows on Dione vanish, revealing subtle patterns of color on the surface. The recent crater Creusa has left a splash of slightly brighter rays across the surface. This is the hemisphere of Dione opposite to its more recognizable "wispy terrain."
