RTG Installed on the New Horizons Spacecraft Workers install the radioisotope thermoelectric generator (RTG) onto the New Horizons spacecraft prior to launch. The RTG provides electricity to the spacecraft in distant regions of the solar system where sunlight is too weak to power solar panels. NASA
