Post-Apollo 13 Spacecraft Improvements To address failures from the near-disaster of Apollo 13, NASA implemented dozens of changes to the Command and Service Module (CSM). These included a significant redesign of the oxygen tanks to reduce the likelihood of electrical shorts, adding a 3rd oxygen tank on the opposite side of the spacecraft, an additional backup battery, and an emergency water supply.
