New Horizons flyby distance for already-discovered objects
New Horizons flyby distance for already-discovered objects Several objects already discovered in the New Horizons search program will pass close enough to be imaged by the spacecraft at better than five times Hubble resolution. The Hubble search should discover another dozen objects that can be imaged at this resolution. High-resolution imaging on these distant flybys will provide important constraints on the statistics of close binaries for Kuiper belt objects smaller than 100 kilometers in diameter, which is currently unknown and is a key constraint on the origin of such small objects.
