Motion of Phoenix and the ground with respect to the HiRISE detectors As Phoenix descended to Mars, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter rotated to compensate for its motion, making Phoenix appear to travel in a direction perpendicular to the linear detectors of the HiRISE camera.
