McGetchin Crater A side-on image of the newly-formed McGetchin Crater on the Moon, as imaged by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. The crater formed sometime in April or May of 2024, and is about as wide across as the two football fields placed end-to-end. The asteroid or comet that carved it was roughly the size of a small apartment building. NASA / LRO
