Late Spring on Mars from the Emirates Mars Mission
Late Spring on Mars from the Emirates Mars Mission This beautiful composite image of Mars was taken on July 18, 2021 by the United Arab Emirates' Hope mission. It was late spring in Mars' northern hemisphere, just a few days after Mars reached its maximum orbital distance from the Sun. The colder temperatures made it a particularly cloudy time on the Red Planet. Vallis Marineris, the solar system's largest canyon is visible just below the center of the image. Mars' most famous volcanoes are to the left, starting with Olympus Mons at the top left. The chain of three volcanoes from left to right are Arsia Mons, Pavonis Mons, and Ascraeus Mons.
