Heidi Hammel with JWST
Heidi Hammel with JWST Heidi B. Hammel is vice president for science at AURA, which manages large telescopes for the U.S. government, both on the ground for the National Science Foundation and in space for NASA. Hammel is a planetary astronomer, and in 2002 NASA chose her (along with five other astronomers) to serve as interdisciplinary scientists on the formal JWST Science Working Group. She plans to use her guaranteed time on JWST to explore objects within our solar system. This image shows the last time that Hammel saw JWST in real life, taken in 2017 when the telescope was in the clean room at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. Heidi Hammel
