Curiosity terrain hazard map, Hidden Valley to Pahrump Hills
Curiosity terrain hazard map, Hidden Valley to Pahrump Hills This map shows the kind of work Curiosity scientists are doing to plan rover traverses to avoid potentially wheel-damaging terrain. Red terrain is the worst. Blue (smooth, with no ripples or large rocks) and yellow (outcrop, with few rocks) are the best terrains for driving. Green (ripples) is sometimes good for driving but can sometimes cause rover wheels to slip. The dark red line plots the planned path as of August 6, 2014; however, after this map was drawn, the rover team decided not to attempt Hidden Valley but instead to skirt around it to the north, aiming for Amargosa Valley.
