Contact calling As Opportunity drove down hill in Perseverance from station 1 to station 2, she drove
through this apparent contact area. The bright outcrop on the right caught the eyes of
the MER scientists. The robot field geologist wound spend October 2017 taking dozens
of images with her stereo Panoramic Camera (Pancam) and Navigation Camera
(Navcam) and then returning to this site to investigate signs of wind abrasion on the
bright outcrop. The MER team will eventually combine these images with hundreds of
others the rover will take at the various stations on her tour of the valley and create a
digital elevation model to help determine what exactly formed this unique geologic
feature. NASA / JPL-Caltech / Cornell University / Arizona State University
