Akatsuki's instruments
Akatsuki's instruments Akatsuki has five imaging instruments, each optimized to look at a different aspect of Venus' atmosphere. From top to bottom: the Lightning and Airglow Camera (LAC) searches for lightning on Venus' nightside in visible wavelengths. The Longwave Infrared camera (LIR) sees upper-level cloud temperatures at a wavelength of 10 microns. The Ultraviolet Imager (UVI) images sulfur dioxide and other chemicals in ultraviolet wavelengths on the sunlit side of Venus. The IR1 camera sees the ground surface glowing with heat at a wavelength of 1 micron. The IR2 camera sees the lower atmosphere at a wavelength of 2 microns. JAXA / Akihiro Ikeshita
