In the premiere of this new monthly series we briefly examine the latest move by the House of Representatives in the game of NASA's budget and then discuss what Lockheed Martin's new "Mars Base Camp" proposal takes from The Society's Humans Orbiting Mars workshop. Our featured discussion takes a deep dive into the story of President Obama's impact on human spaceflight--how NASA ended up with a mixed program of commercial systems and big government programs.

A new episode of Space Policy Edition will be posted on the first Friday of each month. Let us know what you think about our topics and our approach! Comment on this page or write to planetaryradio@planetary.org.

Very informative program showing the role and unfortunately the importance of getting politicians onboard for space exploration. Credit to Caser Dreier and the Planetary Society for moving things in the right direction and I am glad that things have turned out fairly well now but I hope the new President and Congress will continue to support the SLS and Orion but revise it to have the surface of the Moon as a manned testing ground with a descent/ascent vehicle instead of docking with a rock from an asteroid to an eventual manned Mars base and hopefully continuing good support for commercial space and planetary exploration. Too bad Ted Cruz isn't the Republican nominee instead of Donald Trump as far as space support goes.
