This photograph of a crescent Mars was captured by the Soviet Mars 3 spacecraft -- the same mission that dropped the first rover onto the Martian surface -- on February 28, 1972. A planet-wide dust storm was clearing to reveal surface features. For more on this image, visit Ted Stryk's website.
