The Planetary Society, in coordination with the Space Exploration Alliance, will hold its annual grassroots visit to Congress, known as the "Congressional Blitz", in Washington, D.C. from Sunday, February 25 to Tuesday, February 27, 2018.
With unprecedented budgetary pressures facing the legislative and executive branches of government, it is uncertain which path our nation’s leaders will take with respect to our nation’s space program. More than ever before, it is absolutely critical that the voices of the space advocacy community be heard in this debate. Come join space advocates and Planetary Society members from around the country to let Congress know that there is strong constituent support for an ambitious space program.

We Provide the Meetings
After you register, the blitz organizers will arrange for you to participate in roughly 4 - 6 meetings at various offices on Capitol Hill for each day that you decide to attend. Each meeting will be conducted within a group of fellow advocates, about five people in total. We work hard to ensure that your meetings include a visit to your member of Congress and Senators' offices. A full schedule will be provided to you at the training session on Sunday, February 25th.
We Provide the Training
There will be an information/training session for all registered "blitzers" on the afternoon of Sunday, February 25th (from 2:00 p.m. to approximately 5:30 p.m.), and there will also be an optional introductory session for newcomers that same morning (from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.), in preparation for meetings on Monday, February 26th and Tuesday, February 27th.
Our training ensures you have time to practice your "pitch" to congressional offices, gives you an opportunity to meet your fellow group members, and also to learn about the current political and budgetary landscape facing NASA and space exploration in the U.S. This morning session will be lead by The Planetary Society's Director of Space Policy, Casey Dreier. Matt Renninger, The Planetary Society's Senior Government Relations Manager and former congressional staffer, will also be on hand to provide insight into how to speak and focus your arguments. The afternoon session will be led by Rick Zucker, Vice President of ExploreMars, Inc.
Formal talking points and other materials will be provided at this training session.
You Provide Your Travel
Every "blitzer" is required to organize their own travel to and lodging in Washington, D.C. The official Space Exploration Alliance website provides recommendations and tips for getting to and staying in D.C. The Congressional Blitz occurs during a busy time of year in the nation's capitol, so we recommend making your travel plans as soon as possible.
Who Can Register?
Any U.S. citizen over 18 years old is encouraged to join us at the blitz. Individuals under 18 may participate under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian.
(Note to potential blitzers: it's not always this cold in D.C.!)
