2012 DA14 Orbit Relative to Earth's Orbit from Above the Plane of Earth's Orbit The orbit of asteroid 2012 DA14 from above the plane of Earth's orbit, The very close approach (closer than geosynchronous satellites) on Feb. 15, 2013 occurs where the orbits cross on the right side of the image. Note the asteroid's orbit (in blue) is very similar to Earth’s orbit (image created using the JPL small body database browser) .
