Sputnik Planum within Tombaugh Regio, Pluto This mosaic is composed of seven images returned to Earth during the first week after New Horizons flew past Pluto. It covers Sputnik planum, a wide, flat, bright area known to contain carbon monoxide ice, within the bright region known as Tombaugh regio.
