Europa on Galileo orbit G2
Filed under pretty pictures, amateur image processing, Jupiter's moons, Europa, Galileo
This optical navigation ("opnav") image of Europa was acquired by the Galileo Solid State Imaging Experiment (SSI) in September 1996. Most of the Galileo opnav images like this one are very small due to the deployment failure of the spacecraft's high gain antenna, which severely limited the amount of data that could be transmitted back to Earth.
