Crescent Homeworld JAXA's spacecraft, variously named Planet-C, Venus Climate Orbiter, and Akatsuki (or "dawn"), launched on May 17, 2010 for a quick flight to our nearest solar system neighbor.


As it departed, it turned its cameras backward to capture this unique view of a crescent Earth.
