The Viking Merged Color Mosaic Color images from both Viking orbiters were assembled into an enormous mosaic that remains the most seamless color global mosaic available for use in generating maps and simulated views of Mars.

Here is an absolutely enormous version of the mosaic in PNG format, at a resolution of 64 pixels per degree (23040x11520 pixels).

This and other global data sets are available from the USGS Astrogeology website.

There is a new Viking color global mosaic available as of January 2014.

Original image data dated on or about August 7, 1980.

Most NASA images are in the public domain. Reuse of this image is governed by NASA's image use policy.
