Go Back

Lecture 13 of Dr. Bruce Betts' 2013 online Introductory Planetary Science and Astronomy course begins with a conversation with Bill Nye about profound questions in the universe, then covers galaxies (our place in the Milky Way, types of galaxies, Hubble Deep Field), the Universe (determining distances, expansion of the universe, Big Bang theory and evolution of the universe, WMAP and Planck results, dark matter, dark energy, neutrinos), and life in the universe (Earth life requirements, astrobiology, SETI).  Recorded at California State University Dominguez Hills.

I just wanted to send a big "Thank You" over your way Dr. Betts. I completed the "course" last night and I can't tell you how much I appreciate you providing this resource for those of us that have a desire to learn about our beautifully complex universe but do not have the opportunity to go back to school. If anyone on this forum has recommendations for other science related courses offered online, I'd really appreciate the insight; I'm attempting to rekindle my basic understanding of science after a long hiatus (I have a degree in the arts, haha! ) Again, thank you Dr. Betts, California State, TPS, and anyone that can point me in the direction of additional classes. Be well!
