Orion parachute test, Yuma, Arizona
Orion parachute test, Yuma, Arizona NASA’s Orion spacecraft test article sits inside a C-17 airplane at the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground in Yuma, Arizona. On Wednesday, Aug. 25, the vehicle will be dropped from a height of 35,000 feet, and descend with a simulated failure of one drogue parachute and one main parachute. This is the 16th parachute development test, and the next-to-last of the program before crewed flight qualification tests begin next year. Jason Davis / The Planetary Society
