Mars from Mars Observer in color
Mars Observer took two sets of images of Mars 28 days before its intended orbit insertion. The spacecraft was lost on August 21, 1993. The photo has been colorized using ground-based data.

The entire Mars Observer camera data set -- five images -- is available at the Malin Space Science Systems website.
