The Planetary Society will hold its annual Day of Action at the U.S. Congress in Washington, D.C. on 10 February 2020.

Right now, the future of Mars exploration, human exploration at the Moon, and space astronomy at NASA is being decided in the halls of Congress. It is critical that space advocates like you be heard in this debate. Join us: show Congress that there is strong constituent support for an ambitious space program.

"Until my first Day of Action, I always thought of the government as Them. Now I think of it as Us."
– Planetary Society member Laurel B.

Planetary Society members from Pennsylvania meet with Sen. Pat Toomey's (R-PA) office during the 2019 Day of Action in Washington, D.C.

We Provide the Meetings

After you register, we will arrange a minimum of three meetings with the offices of your representatives (both Senate offices and your Representative in the House). Meetings can be either with staff or with the elected official, depending on availability. A full schedule will be provided to you in advance of the event.

We Provide the Training

There will be an information and training session for all registered participants on the afternoon of Sunday, 9 February, led by The Planetary Society's Chief Advocate Casey Dreier. Our training ensures you have time to practice your pitch to congressional offices, gives you an opportunity to meet your fellow group members, and helps you learn about the current political and budgetary landscape facing NASA and space exploration in the United States.

We will provide you with recommended talking points and other supporting materials during your training on 9 February.

Additionally, you can prepare for the experience by taking the Society's free online class, Space Advocacy 101, and by reading materials that will be recommended by our Chief Advocate.

You Provide Your Travel

Every participant is responsible for their own travel to and lodging in Washington, D.C. Our congressional visits occur during a busy time of year in the nation's capital, so we recommend making your travel plans as soon as possible.

Need travel tips and recommendations? We have some for you.

We also have a limited block of discounted hotel rooms available at the downtown Washington, D.C. Holiday Inn. Please use this link to book your rooms.

Can’t Make It To Washington?

You can still make an impact. On February 10th Planetary Society members and supporters across the country can take part in the Day of Action by contacting their representatives by phone and email, and by sharing key messages on social media. Pledge today to participate in the Day of Action at home, and we’ll send you tips, trainings, and reading materials to prepare you to advocate remotely.

Who Can Register?

Any U.S. resident over 18 years old is encouraged to join us in Washington, D.C.. Individuals under 18 may participate under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian. People of all ages can advocate from home.

If you are not a U.S. citizen you will not have a representative in Congress to contact, but you can still make a difference by sharing the key talking points of the Day of Action with your community. Pledge to take action at home wherever you live.

What's It Like To Advocate in Washington?

"I can't tell you how wonderfully, awesomely inspiring it was to be able to personally make a difference in the Day of Action, meeting with actual policymakers about space and space exploration." – David K.

"The Day of Action was an incredible opportunity and experience. Not only did it make you feel more connected to The Planetary Society, but it made you feel proud of our government and the process by which you can advocate as an American citizen." – Lee S.

"Participating in the Day of Action was my first chance to actually do something meaningful for the field I hope to one day be a part of. If you love seeing what NASA can do, you should come show your support this year in DC!" – Makenzie L.
