Tell us about why you love space exploration, what got you excited in the first place, what inspires you, or whatever you would like to share with your community of space fans!
We’re looking for images you’ve taken of your sky—whether those images are of galaxies captured through a telescope or perhaps pictures of an incredible night sky, an eclipse, a star party, or a rocket launch. We can’t guarantee that we’ll publish every image and story—but we will look at each and every one and will showcase as many as possible here on our website and a few might make it to our magazine, The Planetary Report. We look forward to seeing your Sky.

Three… Two… One… Liftoff! We have liftoff! We cheered. It was the summer of 2018 and I was at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville Alabama for a week of Space Camp. We had spent all morning in a flight simulation and, after a hearty lunch, had traipsed down to the “Launchpad” where we were to launch the model rockets we had constructed. The object was to launch and return the rocket while the egg placed in the nosecone, conveniently standing in for an astronaut, had to remain intact.
The rockets soared through the air the parachutes opening like ... more »

My career at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory began in 1976, and I enjoyed forty years there as my work evolved from technology development to proposing and then planning new missions at JPL. Once a mission plan was approved, my job was completed and I could move on to another proposal or to another mission. It always thrills me to hear about an accomplishment of some project that I helped to start.
When I looked in libraries for good books that describe JPL, I found that there were just a few offerings in the communities near JPL, and often there was nothing ... more »

I did something very exciting recently. I arranged to launch the original manuscript of my new young adult science fiction space novel, The Orb, the Link & the Library, into outer space. I did this with the help of one of our extraordinary commercial spaceflight service companies and then had it returned to Earth for publication (publishing on August 8, 2018). The thrill in doing this was so my young adult readers, as they hold a book whose original manuscript actually flew into space, might better experience the excitement of going there when they become absorbed by the story that ... more »
