Ken Edgett, First to See Newly-Formed Craters and Evidence of Flowing Water on Mars

Airdate: Sunday, December 17, 2006
Running Time: 00:28:52
Listen: Windows Media | MP3

As a staff scientist for Malin Space Science Systems, Ken Edgett has viewed everyone of the more than 240,000 images returned by the Mars Global Surveyor. He was first to notice a black spot that wasn't there earlier. It was the first of 20 newly-formed impact craters. Ken also talks about the similar discovery of new white deposits suggesting water has flowed down gullies in the last few years. Emily Lakdawalla's Q&A looks at the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter tracking down landers on the surface. Bruce Betts gets tubular on the Moon's Hadley Rille and announces a new space trivia contest.
