A Voyager Milestone with Ed Stone

Airdate: Monday, August 14, 2006
Running Time: 00:28:52
Listen: Windows Media | MP3

Voyager 1 is farther from Earth than any other human-made object, reaching 100 Astronomical Units, or 9.3 billion miles, this week. We talk with former Jet Propulsion Laboratory Director Ed Stone, who has served as Voyager project scientist since 1972. Emily Lakdawalla's Q&A explains why safety concerns will keep Cassini from taking pictures of Saturn's ring particles. Bruce Betts does handstands in a spacesuit (sort of) for this week's What's Up! look at the night sky and a new space trivia contest. Also, a tribute to space pioneer James Van Allen.

Guests

  • Ed Stone, Former Director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory
