Free, public event.
Note: best for middle school age and up and any planetary science enthusiasts.

The purpose of these Town Halls is to engage the public in charting a course for human space exploration beyond Earth orbit. A new Administration will soon take power in Washington, D.C., and we need to begin preparing to influence the policies that will determine how the United States addresses the potential future in space.

Any possible course must take into account the current Vision for Space Exploration, as manifested in the Constellation program, as well as the growing priority of Earth observations, and the teetering balance between science and exploration in NASA. In addition, the once-exclusive club of space faring nations is growing, with China, India, and Japan joining the U.S., Europe, and Russia in space capability.

Bill Nye, Vice-President of The Planetary Society, will moderate the Town Hall discussions, which will kick off with short presentations from space scientist Heidi Hammel, member of The Planetary Society’s board; a representative of the taxpaying public; and a student whose future will be shaped by the policy decisions made in the next few years. Following the presentations, we will open up the discussion to the audience to hear your opinions about what direction you would like to see the United States and the world take in space exploration.
