SETI@home Transition FAQs

Q: How do I sign up for BOINC?
Go to the BOINC website at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/ and click on the download link. Then, click on the BOINC version that is appropriate for your computer platform and follow instructions from there.

Q: How do I sign up for the new SETI@home?
With the installation complete and the BOINC manager screen open, point to the “Projects” pull-down menu, and click on “attach to project.” In the “Project URL” window enter http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/. Then check “create new account” and proceed from there.

If, after following the procedures for creating a new account you get a “failed to attach to project” message, go to http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/create_account_form.php to create an account on the SETI@home site. Then, try again to link to the project from the BOINC manager, this time checking “connect to existing account.”

Q: What will happen to my stats?
The new BOINC-based SETI@home will calculate credits very differently than SETI@home classic. This means that your old stats will be frozen, but they will still be preserved and accessible online. All users of BOINC-based SETI@home start from scratch, with zero credits.
