Projects: EarthDials
EarthDial Newsletter No. 12
13 December 2004
Since the last Newsletter in September, we have a beautiful new ED-22 from
Brazil -- check it out. At a latitude of 20 deg S, this (at last) is our first
ED in the Southern Hemisphere (or, to be more exact, the "normal" part
of the S.H., since the South pole ED certainly qualified during its short
lifetime!). 3 other EDs are looking very close - France, Australia and South
Africa. We're excited about these almost-there cases, because they will mean
that we've had an ED on every continent! Keep working on them, guys.
Ethan Dicks at the South Pole had a working ED-11 for last March and then
the Sun set on him for six months. Unfortunately when he went out to retrieve
the dial in October, all he found was a huge drift of snow! And now he's left
the research station for warmer climes, so that's the short, but sweet saga
of ED-11 - it was great while it lasted.
