Beagle 2 departs The bright spot on the left side of this picture is the back side of Beagle 2, slowly drifting away from Mars Express. This image, taken at 08:33 UTC on 19 December 2003, shows the Beagle 2 lander when it was about 20 meters away from Mars Express, en route to a surface landing on Mars. Beagle 2 was subsequently lost.
