Outside the crater, the floor of Caloris is cracked into polygon shapes. The photo was taken as a high-resolution targeted observation during MESSENGER's second mission extension on April 26, 2014. At full size it has a resolution of 290 meters per pixel. MESSENGER's color camera has lower resolution than its monochrome narrow-angle camera.
