Oppy’s parting shot
After transmitting this incomplete shot in June 2018, the historic global dust storm forced Opportunity to shut down. The robot likely suffered a low- power fault just after she took this image. She presumably then went into a kind of hibernation to wait out the planet-encircling dust event (PEDE). NASA declared the rover’s mission and the MER project “complete’ on Feb. 13, 2019.
