Marias Pass and Mount Sharp, Curiosity sol 1066

Marias Pass and Mount Sharp, Curiosity sol 1066
Marias Pass and Mount Sharp, Curiosity sol 1066 Curiosity took the images for this panorama with its Navcam at the end of the end of a drive on sol 1066, heading southwest from the Lion/Buckskin drill site toward Marias Pass. Immediately head of the rover lie two overlapping sets of tracks that Curiosity laid down on sols 995 and 1035. Those tracks are on the Pahrump unit, which outcrops to the left of the tracks as a flat, light-toned material. The walls to Curiosity's left and right, and up ahead, are made of the Stimson unit, a sandstone with sometimes dramatic cross-bedding. Sol 1066 was the third Earth-year anniversary of Curiosity's landing on Mars. In the distance lie the foothills of Mount Sharp. NASA / JPL / Emily Lakdawalla
