MAHLI image of surface of Sheepbed mudstone, sol 291
MAHLI image of surface of Sheepbed mudstone, sol 291 Nodules protrude from the otherwise flat surface of this mudstone, known as the "Sheepbed unit," at Yellowknife Bay. They have been exposed by wind scouring of the surface of the rock, which is less resistant to erosion than the nodules it contains. Wind tails have formed downwind of the nodules (up and to the right in this image). NASA / JPL / MSSS
