The Planetary Society creates and participates in events to bring the excitement of space exploration to public audiences. From our world-wide Planetfests to lectures in small-town libraries to hanging a solar-sail blade in Rockefeller Center in New York, we are constantly finding new ways involve our members in the excitement of space exploration.

If you can’t make it to an event along the path of totality, you can watch totality happen LIVE via slooh.com. Slooh is your interface to outer space. You can control online telescopes, watch LIVE streaming events, participate in the community and more. For the 2017 North American Eclipse they will be broadcasting totality live from the Elk Creek Campground in Idaho.

Planetary Radio Live from Southern Illinois University Carbondale

Mat Kaplan of Planetary Radio will enjoy the eclipse from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The school's August 19-21 celebration will include an Eclipse ComicCon, Astronomy, Science & Technology Expo, and a Planetary Radio Live stage show on Sunday, August 20th. Mat will host the live stadium show the next day as 50,000 campus visitors and webcast viewers around the world wait for day to become night.

Bill Nye at Homestead National Monument

Join our CEO Bill Nye, Dr. Amy Mainzer from JPL, and Ready Jet Go! (PBS Kids) at Homestead National Monument in Nebraska. Nye will join Park Rangers and celebrated science educators onsite in the path of totality and on stage to welcome visitors as they enjoy totality. Ready Jet Go! will help lead the crowd through the 90 minutes of eclipse phases through a series of demonstrations, Q&A with Dr. Amy Mainzer, songs from the series, a countdown to Eclipse Totality, and explanations of what to look, feel, and listen for as the shadow of the total solar eclipse descends over Homestead.

Griffith Observatory Star Party
