Anthe (S/2007 S4) discovery animation
A series of wide-angle camera images taken on May 30, 2007 revealed a tiny, never-before-observed Moon in orbit between Methone and Pallene (themselves discovered by Cassini). The moon was not resolved by Cassini but its point of light is so dim that it is unlikely to be larger than 2 kilometers in diameter. Credit: NASA / JPL / SSI

Discovered in Cassini Images

Size: Roughly 2 kilometers
Orbital radius: 197,700 kilometers - 3.28 Saturn radii - within the E ring - between Mimas and Enceladus
Orbital period: 1.01 days - about 1/16 of Titan’s
Discovery: 2005 in Cassini images

Anthe joins Methone and Pallene as a set of tiny regular moons discovered in Cassini images between the orbits of Mimas and Enceladus. Little else is known about this tiny moon.
