Yes We Can!

Nancy Lee Hindman

November 26, 2013

In my teenage years, the cold war era threw a cold blanket over thoughts about the future. The appearance of Star Trek gave me hope that the future could be very exciting indeed. I firmly believe that Star Trek was, and still is, a potent message that we are capable of space exploration. Even at the age of 71, I would like to help build a permanent base on the Moon. The base would be very useful now but, as it drifts away from Earth, it would become a message in a bottle to any creatures who encounter it.

I'm with you, Nancy. We must learn a great deal about surviving on an airless world before venturing to Mars. How do we go about difficult tasks, such as:"mining" water from dirty ice; shielding ourselves from radiation, surviving wide ranges of temperature? The moon provides us a unique opportunity to hone our survivor skills.
