I would like to see more emphasis put on ‘World Security’ from NEOs whenever solar system exploration budgets are discussed with our contrary Congress. Much funding is awarded from bogus fear-mongering; but there is nothing ‘bogus’ about the threat of NEOs. If NASA’s budget is increased for finding NEOs [before it’s too late for us to be proactive in preventing a catastrophic impact], other exploration should benefit from the increased budget as well.
I’m guessing that a satellite orbiting Jupiter, for example, looking for NEOs could occasionally explore/scrutinize Jupiter itself.
An asteroid or comet headed for Earth is the only large-scale natural disaster we can prevent. Working together to fund our Shoemaker NEO Grants for astronomers, we can help save the world.
